Not the beating, but the
breath
of a motor, nearly silent,
alerts me and I turn
to see
into myself,
and into you, and into this
wild universe
faintly
suggesting life ….
a tiny boat sputters along
without lights this
moonless night …
black sky, black sea, black mountains …
black, black, black is everywhere.
It scares me just a bit and yet
he moves …
a man at peace
alone
in the vast.
Your poems are extremely engaging, Pam!

There are times when “alone in the vast” is my fondest wish. Not another soul around. All life is concentrated within the moment and uniquely mine to savor. Of course, there are times, too, when it’s also nice to share. This verse is concise, yet robust, and vividly descriptive. It projects elements of mystery and intrigue – makes the mind wonder. Nicely done!
